On graduating from school students are supposed to understand short texts, get the speaker's intentions and catch details. This should be taught step by step from the very start. What do you do in class to teach your students to understand foreign speech? What resources do you use? What tasks do you offer?

The only thing I can do is to read texts for them as I even have no appliance receptacle in my class! So I have no opportunity to use any other devices....I hope one day the financing fo schools will improve...

My classroom is eguipped very well: I've got 11 computers. To improve my students' listening comprehension I use mp3 discs and , of course, I use the internet. I try to drell this skill as often as possible (as it is one of the most difficult), but all the same it is a weak point of many students.

I think that we should start teaching our students listening skills from the first lessons. Fortunately, nowadays we have an oppotunity to use computers , headphones,CDs at the lessons.Pupils enjoy working using such facilities.
And also I ask pupils` parents to pay attention to the necessity of working with the CDs at home.

Well, why unfortunately? It's good because your pupils do not live in the language environment. As a teacher, of course you want to give more language to your students. It's impossible to motivate all pupils, but you can attain a lot by motivating the best few. One good idea - pupils watch a cartoon in English at home, then talk about it on a similar site or in class (in Russian). One a week or in two weeks. Try to experiment, things may work well.

May be there is a certain reason in your words that teacher's speach is the best instrument in teaching listening comprehention and if you are consistent and persitent in your desire to speek only English at your lessons it can be successful. At least in the case you have nothing but a CD- player and some discs at your disposal, as it is in my case.

I have some opportunities to train students in listening. The Internet, computers and CD-players help to organise this activity. But I have no my own classroom and have to change classrooms every lesson. I should say it is inconvenient and prevent from efficient training.

There are a lot of texts for listening in Enjoy English. We listen the CDs at every lesson and then do the exercises to check the understanding. I've found a lot of children's songs and made the presentations with tasks to check the understanding. It's also very interesting to listen to modern songs at the lessons and ask students to be very attentive and be ready to do my after-listening tasks.
