| I am sure that the idea of a 'generation gap'as a social and cultural phenomenon has been a good attempt to account for certain generational problems and conflicts. It was invented by adults. 'GAP' as a concept means a certain distance that has no bridge and even if you build one, these will be two different territories, thus will be always different. Why do we call it a gap? Just to indicate the distance and inability to shorten or remove it? I am against the idea of 'generation gap' for three reasons: 1) It's the invention of adults who want to control and supervise the young. 2) It's a certain inability of adults to communicate with those who are younger or older because they can't find time for it. 3) It's just a proof of social intepersonal apathy coined in the phrase 'I don't care'.

| I know that the 'generation gap' problem exists but I don't feel it fortunately. I am sure it's just because I am a teacher and I have a great opportunity to be surrounded by the young. It lets me stay young in spirit. I try to be their partner not their boss, speak their language, share their ideas, support their efforts, understand their troubles. It can't but break any gap and make the relations closer.

| That's a good phrase - be their partner not their boss! Yet how can you rely on such relationships? Can't your pupils once abuse these relationships for their own egos? Do you think that there should be a well-marked distance between the teacher and the pupils? Why should we speak their language? Isn't education about teaching the young our 'adult' language that will help them be a success in life? However, I think you are right! When you do some work together with your pupils, you understand that you are beyond that 'GG'.

| Any partnership is based on rules, regulations, arrangements and certainly demands. It is not a spontaneous interaction; it should have its strategic aims. You should plan, constantly analyze the process and the results of this partnership and get ready to change the line. Intuition can also be helpful as it’s great when you fell that it is hot, so stop, think, then act, and may be surprise. As for abusing relationships for own egos it is a thing typical not only of children but adults as well. So it’s not so frightening…. Have strategies and follow them and you won’t suffer from it. Now about their language. Certainly it’s not the basic lan-ge of interaction. But we must know it, as very often it is the tool of teaching our ‘adult’ one. We use Russian to teach English.

| I see one big problem in this matter - the generation gap is a natural period in one's life. We can't get away from it. It should be there, otherwise how will you understand that you have more experience, more understanding, more authority, more patience, more chances, more mistakes, more living strategies, more answers to more questions? If one doesn't have them, why does one think he or she will be of interest to the youngsters? It's nonsense. I like that there is the so-called generation gap!

| Am I so inconsistent and forgetful? Now I am in two minds! Then I subscribe to the second supposition - generation gap is a grown-up trick to disregard youngsters. I never think of the generation gap when I work or socialize with youngsters. I want them to learn something from me. I know what is good and bad, clever and stupid, interesting and boring, promising and useless. When they get it from me, they have the right to use it to their own needs and ambitions.
